Honey Ginger Remedy For Weight Loss, Immunity, Worms + More

The Ayurveda Experience August 16, 2017

Ginger is called maha aushadam which means ‘great medicine’ or ‘universal medicine’ in Ayurveda. Ginger is a wonder herb and a very important ingredient in most cuisines around the world. It is commonly used and abundant. It belongs to the zingiber aceae family and the useful part is the rhizome.

Ginger increases the appetite and digests ama or digestive toxins. It plays a major role in diseases of the digestive tract. It is hot in potency and acts as an expectorant. It’s widely used in upper respiratory infections, sore throat, runny nose, sinusitis and asthmatic conditions.

Because it is hot in potency, ginger relieves the body from toxins and kindles the appetite. It is known to improve metabolism or the Dhatu formation cycle. This makes it useful in hypothyroidism, weight loss, PCOS and more. Ginger is also considered an aphrodisiac in Ayurveda due to its Madhura vipaka or sweet taste. Both fresh ginger and dry ginger possess enormous health benefits.

    Honey Ginger Remedy

    Ingredients
    1 cup (200 ml) honey
1 cup (200 ml) ginger pieces

    Directions
    1. Wash the ginger and peel the skin.
    2. Cut the ginger into 50 to 60 small pieces.
    3. Transfer the ginger pieces to an air tight glass container and pour the honey over it. All the pieces of ginger should be soaked evenly in the honey.
    4. Let it sit at room temperature for four days. Do not keep it in the fridge.
    5. On the fifth day you will see the ginger juice has infused into the honey and the ginger pieces are tender.

How To Use Honey Ginger Remedy

Consume one piece of this ginger everyday on an empty stomach for 48 days.

This recipe is considered a rasayana. It rejuvenates the body and promotes the complexion and luster of the skin. It is effective in mitigating acne and other skin problems, improves immunity, expels intestinal worms and relieves all Kapha and Vata related disorders. It should be used with caution by those suffering from urticaria, gastric ulcers and gastritis.
