    Manage all types of fevers with Mahasudarshana Churna

    Mahasudarshana Churna is an antipyretic medicine used in Ayurveda, which is mainly used for the management of all types of fevers. It reduces ‘Ama’ (toxins) and helps to fight off fevers and infections. Maha Sudarshana Churna clears channels and increases sweating, which helps to reduce fever. 

    Ingredients to prepare Mahasudarshana Churna:  

    • Haritaki – Chebulic myrobalan (Terminalia chebula) – 10 g  
    • Vibhitaki – Belliric myrobalan (Terminalia bellirica) – 10 g  
    • Amalaki – Amla fruit – Indian gooseberry (Emblica officinalis) – 10 g   
    • Rajani – turmeric (Curcuma longa) –10 g  
    • Daruharidra – tree turmeric (Berberis aristata) – 10 g   
    • Brihati (Solanum indicum) – 10 g  
    • Kantakari (Solanum xanthocarpum) – 10 g  
    • Shati (curcuma zedoaria / Hedychium spicatum) – 10 g  
    • Nagara – Ginger (Zingiber officinale) – 10 g  
    • Maricha – Black pepper (Piper nigrum) – 10 g  
    • Pippali – Long pepper fruit (Piper longum) – 10 g  
    • Granthika – Long pepper root (Piper longum) (wild var.) – 10 g  
    • Murva (Marsdenia tenacissima) – 10 g  
    • Guduchi – Indian Tinospora (Tinospora cordifolia) – 10 g  
    • Dhanvayasa (Tragia involucrata) – 10 g  
    • Katuki or Kutki (Picrorhiza kurroa) – 10 g  
    • Parpataka (Fumaria indica) – 10 g  
    • Musta (Cyperus rotundus) – 10 g  
    • Whole plant of trāyamāṇā (Gentiana kurroo) – 10 g  
    • Valaka, Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides) – 10 g  
    •  Nimba – Neem (Azadirachta indica) – 10 g  
    • Pushkaramoola (Inula racemosa) – 10 g  
    •  Madhuyashti – Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) – 10 g  
    • Vatsaka (Holarrhena antidysenterica) – 10 g  
    •  Yamani (Trachyspermum ammi) – 10 g  
    •  Indrayava – seeds of Kutaja (Holarrhena antidysenterica) – 10 g  
    •  Bharngi (Clerodendrum serratum) – 10 g  
    •  Shigrubeeja – Moringa seeds (Moringa oleifera) – 10 g  
    •  Surashtraka (Purified alum) – 10 g   
    •  Rhizome of Vacha – Sweet flag (Acorus calamus) – 10 g  
    • Twak – Cinnamon - (Cinnamomum verum) – 10g  
    •  Padmaka - (Prunus cerasoides) – 10 g  
    •  Usheera – vetive(Vetiveria zizanioides) – 10 g  
    •  Chandana – Sandalwood (Santalum album) – 10 g  
    •  Ativisha (Aconitum heterophyllum) – 10 g   
    •  Bala (Sida cordifolia) – 10 g  
    •  Shaliparni (Desmodium gangeticum) – 10 g  
    • Prishniparni (Uraria picta) – 10 g  
    •  Vidanga (Embelia ribes) – 10 g  
    •  Tagara (Valeriana wallichii) – 10 g  
    •  Chitraka – Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) – 10 g  
    •  Devadaru (Cedrus deodara) – 10 g  
    •  Chavya (Piper chaba) – 10 g  
    •  Patola (Trichosanthes dioica) – 10 g  
    • Vidari (Pueraria tuberosa) (substitute, used for the herbs Jivaka and Rishabhaka) – 20 g  
    •  Lavanga – Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) – 10 g  
    •  Vamshalochana (Bambusa bambos) – 10 g  
    •  Pundarika (Nelumbo nucifera) – 10g  
    •  Kakoli (Withania somnifera) (substitute of Fritillaria roylei) – 10 g  
    •  Patra (Cinnamomum tamala) – 10 g  
    •  Fruit of Jati – Nutmeg - (Myristica fragrans) – 10 g  
    •  Taleesapatra (Abies webbiana) – 10 g  
    •  Kairata – Kiratatikta (Swertia chirata) – 265 g

    Method of preparation:

    1. Cleaned, dried ingredients of the above herbs are taken. They are subjected to pounding.  
    2. They are filtered to get the fine powder.  
    3. They are taken in the mentioned proportions and mixed uniformly.  
    4. Because this product is primarily indicated for fever, Kiratatikta, which is a very potent antipyretic herb, is the major ingredient of this traditional formulation. It is added half of the total quantity of the other ingredients. 

    The herbal powder mixture should be stored in an airtight container.

    Pharmacological actions:

    Mahasudarshana Churna mainly has antipyretic and detoxifying actions. It digests ama (product of imbalanced digestion and metabolism) and reduces the toxins in the body. It detoxifies the body and reduces blockage of channels, which induces sweating and reduces fever.

    Dosage: 

    1 – 2 grams with honey or lukewarm water, once or two times a day, before or after food, as directed by the physician  
    Maha Sudarshan Ghan Vati is the same product, prepared in the form of tablet. Its dose is 2 tablets 2 -3 times in a day, before or after food, along with honey or lukewarm water.

    Benefits and effect on Tridosha:  

    Because of the brilliant combination of multiple ingredients, this product is effective in balancing all the three Doshas 
    This unique feature makes this formulation useful in almost all types of fevers. This is one of the primary choices of medicine for treating fever and its associated complaints.  
    It is used in the treatment of fevers caused due to allergy, viral and bacterial infections.  
    It is also used in the treatment of fever caused due to external injury, pollen allergy, poisonous insect bite, rodent bite etc.
    It is also useful in treating fever due to psychological factors such as fear, anxiety, stress, extreme physical activity, fatigue etc.   
    It is also used for the treatment of 

    • Excessive thirst
    • Dry palate   
    • Cold
    • Cough
    • Dyspnea
    • Breathing difficulties
    • Asthma
    • Chronic respiratory illnesses such as chronic bronchitis.  

    From its ingredients, turmeric, tree turmeric, ginger, long pepper root and fruit, PushkaramoolaShatiBrihati and Kantakari are quite commonly found in many Ayurvedic medicines used for boosting respiratory strength and immunity.  

    Anemia, infective liver disorders, jaundice, hepatitis - katukiguduchi, Musta are very well-established liver tonics. Neem and Kiratatikta herbs are excellent anti inflammatory and anti microbial herbs, useful in fighting liver infections.  

    Shoola, i.e. pin in the abdominal and back region is traditionally mentioned as an indication of Maha Sudarshana Churna. Pain on lower back, upper back, hip, knee joint, pain in flanks etc. are mentioned in the list of indications. Here, in this context, it should be understood that, Mahasudarshana churna is effective in treating the underlying pathology of internal organs of the abdomen such as liver infections, intestinal infections, digestive disorders, kidney and spleen disorders. Thus it helps the patient to avoid the referred pain in the abdominal and lower back region. 

    Some Ayurveda practitioners use it in the treatment of malaria, typhoid fever and dengue and goutThey use this, along with a combination of multiple therapies and medicines to treat these fevers. 

    Safety when using Mahasudarshana Churna:

    Mahasudarshana Churna is likely to be safesince it is a purely herbal product. It can be taken by children, pregnant women and adults suffering from fever. However, it alone might not provide relief from infections, so you also may need other medicines to fight infection. Consult an ayurvedic physician for a proper management of fever and infections. 

    Caution: A very high dosage may cause burning sensation in stomach.  

    Pregnant women and diabetic people take this medicine only under medical supervision.
