Did you know that Indian Gooseberry harbors the Vitamin C of 20 oranges beneath its small, plump appearance?! Although it has been revered for thousands of years, the magic in its material has been a mystery to most in the West - UNTIL NOW!!
Growing free and plentiful all over India, the Indian Gooseberry harbors the vitamin C of 20 oranges beneath its small, plump appearance! Although it has been revered for thousands of years, the magic in its material has been a mystery to most in the West - UNTIL NOW!!
The Indian Gooseberry has more names than you can count! That’s probably because it has so much to offer, it’s difficult to encapsulate its essence with just one name! Some other names for this fruit are Amla berry, or, in Ayurvedic wellness traditions, Amalaki.
Historically, Indian Gooseberry has found its way into elixirs and tonics intended to promote balance and healthy equilibrium of body and mind.
Did You Know?
According to Ayurveda, 6 different tastes exist, namely, sweet, salty, sour, pungent, astringent, and bitter. An ideal diet is considered to be the one that comprises all these tastes, as each taste can have a telling effect on the three Doshas - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
Amla is a wonder-fruit in that it constitutes as many as 5 different tastes. Although its primary taste is sour, it also constitutes sweet, pungent, astringent and bitter tastes, and is considered to be Tridoshic - capable of pacifying all the three doshas.
Classified as a cooling fruit, Indian Gooseberry is venerated for its ability to calm, sooth, and relieve.
Ayurveda is an ancient philosophy delivered through a system of medicine native to India. Developed over 5,000 years ago, Ayurveda champions holistic wellness and attentiveness.
This beautiful, historically rich practice creatively applies the natural restorative properties found in herbs, fruits, and other ingredients to mental and physical wellness.
Indian Gooseberry and Ayurveda go way back! In fact, there is a sacred Ayurvedic preparation called Triphala, and Indian Gooseberry is one of the three fruits incorporated therein. Triphala is an herbal remedy with a recipe that consists of Amla fruit, Hiritaki, and Bibhitaki. Together, these India-native fruits form a polyherbal elixir that promotes balance and supports positive energy flow. Being polyherbal, these formulations comprise multiple herbs that work in harmony to deliver potent results.
A wonderful saying emerged around Triphala that goes something like,
“No mother? Do not worry so long as you have Triphala.”
The beautiful idea behind this saying is that the earth will provide for her children all that is necessary to achieve wholeness, wellness, and holistic upliftment. Whatever it is that you lack, supporting and soothing elements can be found in natural ingredients, courtesy of a loving environment.
Ancient Ayurvedic wisdom teaches us about three body types. In Sanskrit, a dosha is one of three combinations that makes up someone’s constitution. You can think of dosha as bodily bio-elements. The three body types, or doshas, are Vata, Kapha, and Pitta.
The wonderfully surprising thing about Triphala, the remedy that depends on Indian Gooseberry for its potency, is that it is recommended for all three doshas!
For this reason, Triphala is considered a tridoshic remedy. As one of the three fruits that make up this incredibly nourishing tonic, Indian Gooseberry shines its radiant light of positive wellness on all who seek to experience its delights.
Indian Gooseberry is certainly treasured for its many applications. But what does that have to do with hair?
Take a walk with us as we imagine a woman whose wisdom and discernment have grown and blossomed with age, but whose hair has fallen limp and listless.
Picture her as she readies herself before the mirror: her beautiful smile, bright eyes, graceful neck. Her charm radiates but she pauses, running her fingers through her hair. Although her diet is healthy and full of a variety of nutrients and vitamins, her long locks have become dry, brittle, and dehydrated. She wonders if she should try a new conditioner, shampoo, or stylist!
But her kind husband, after hearing her mentioning these things, gifts the woman with a luxurious, decadent oil infused with natural ingredients like Indian Gooseberry and Indian False Daisy. The woman is curious - oil for my hair? She would come to learn that our pores produce less oil as we mature, but natural tonics can deliver much-needed nourishment and hydration to dull heads of hair!
After using the revitalizing hair oil with frequency, the woman stood before the mirror beaming. The lush, vibrant appearance of the hair of her youth had returned. And with it, her energy and radiance soared to new heights!
Whether it’s stress, environmental toxins, chemical-laden products, or harsh treatments, our hair can really take a beating!
We want to breathe new life into our listless locks, but it can be difficult to know where to start.
The Health and Beauty industry profits from the low self-esteem of women struggling to find balance and wellness. We are bombarded with messages of inadequacy, failure, lack, and a need to fix ourselves - fast! These quick-fix solutions often come in the form of overpriced, over-hyped, chemical-packed, highly processed products. There are millions to choose from and no end to the constant parade of new shampoos, masks, and conditioners promising to breathe life into our dry, listless hair.
But Ayurvedic wisdom tells us to keep things Natural. We don’t rely on the latest trend or chemical concoction. Instead, we turn to Ancient, time-honored traditions of nourishment and restoration that can be lovingly applied to the parts of our body that need them the most.
The Ayurvedia Experience believes in the power of soothing oils to restore balance in all areas of your physical and mental health. This is the root philosophy of holistic wellness, and the motivation behind the iYURA line of oils.
It has been said, “A woman’s hair is her crown of glory!”
But much like the woman in the story, many of us notice a distinct change in our hair as we mature.
Just like the skin on our faces, our scalp produces less oil naturally as we age. Fortunately, there are gentle, thoughtful ways to support dehydrated hair and restore its look to that of supple vitality.
iYURA brings us a restorative hair elixir that can be massaged directly into the scalp as a soothing, revitalizing treatment. Indian Gooseberrywas carefully selected as part of this tonic because of its ability to promote the look of luster, vitality, and fullness.
Not only does Ambhring deliver the much-needed hydration, it helps in locking in your scalp’s natural moisture as well.
Another vivacious gift from iYURA, Rukshadi Hair Oil, is a life-saver for those dealing with an itchy, dry scalp. Many of the shampoos and treatments that we use on our hair can be incredibly damaging and stripping over time.
This Ayurvedic formula is designed to get to the root of the problem - literally!
By focusing on improving the health of the scalp, Rukshadi creates an environment that promotes strong, healthy hair. This generous oil contains 8 herbs, 3 essential oils, and 2 base oils.
Our beloved Indian Gooseberry supports a lush appearance while coconut oil nourishes and hydrates. And the all-powerful Turmeric helps keep your scalp cleansed and purified!
The iYURA Oils hosted at The Ayurveda Experience are all 100% natural and safe. We do not believe in compromising our values or yours! Further, they are made from pure, cold-pressed virgin oil with no added fragrance, heavy metals, or chemicals.
In the West, there is no shortage of beauty-related products. But many of these products contain parabens, toxins, dangerous chemicals, and harmful ingredients.
But Ayurveda offers the wisdom of the ages - no false promises or exaggerated claims necessary. We trust you to appreciate the benefits of all-natural ingredients sourced from the bounty of Nature! The ingredients used in our Oils are gentle, sustainable, and 100% natural. Just as important, they’re kind. We never test on animals!

"So Impressed
I am loving this oil.... It’s only been 2 weeks and my scalp is SO much better already. I use this 2 times a week, putting it on before bed and washing my hair the next morning. It isn’t hard to wash out at all which surprised me. I was afraid I’d have to shampoo so much that I’d lose all the benefits of the oil treatment but that is not the case.... As a bonus, this oil smells great too, not overpowering which is great, as some smells trigger an allergic reaction. Even my husband loves the scent. I don’t think I will ever be without this."
