Does your flawless foundation now look like cracked pavement?
Has your skin gone from smooth and supple to feeling like sandpaper?
Does your skin feel so dry and tight, you thought you could hear it creak with every smile?
If you answered YES to every question above, then you need to read this!
Let’s start by helping you understand what’s happening with your skin. 👇🏼
Your face is the focal point of human connection - whether it’s conveying emotions, expressing personality, a canvas for makeup, or a key player in first impressions. But this prized real estate also comes with a challenge: thin, delicate skin that requires constant care.
Unlike the tougher skin on the rest of your body like the arms and legs, facial skin is incredibly thin and more sensitive, making it more susceptible to dryness, and dehydration, resulting in early or aggressive signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and dullness.
So, how do you know if your skin is dry and dehydrated?
Here are some telltale signs:
A rough or flaky texture that feels anything but smooth.
An itch that just won't quit, leading to constant scratching.
Increased susceptibility to infections, as the compromised barrier struggles to keep irritants at bay.
A stinging or burning sensation, often triggered by harsh soaps or environmental factors.
Peeling skin, shedding in response to the underlying dryness.
Before we move on to further signs of dryness, do we know...
WHAT EXACTLY IS DRY SKIN?
Your facial skin needs just two things: to hold onto its water and to have a shield against the outside world.
Dry skin refers to a lack of sufficient moisture in the outer layers of your skin. But sometimes, this happy balance gets messed up. Water leaves your skin faster than it can be replaced, and that's when dryness sets in. This can happen for lots of reasons, like getting older, having a health condition, the weather changing, or even how long you take those hot-steamy showers. While some people naturally have drier skin, even those with oily skin can suffer from dry skin sometimes.
Moisture loss
Dry skin isn't just about looking a little dull; it can feel awful too. It can be itchy, scaly, and even crack!
It is often caused by external stress your facial skin undergoes, like UV rays, pollution, harsh weather, aging and menopause. Out of all these the top 2 are aging and menopause.
Let’s understand in detail, the how’s and the why’s:
Aging & Dry Skin:
Your skin is constantly changing, and over time its natural moisture-retaining cells begin to slow down, disrupting its delicate balance. This means your once plump and glowing skin now becomes saggy, dry and dull.
One key contributor is a decrease in the production of natural oils, or sebum. This reduction in sebum production weakens the skin's moisture barrier, allowing moisture to escape more easily and leaving the skin feeling dry and tight. The gradual loss of collagen and elastin in the skin – proteins responsible for its firmness and elasticity - further weakens this barrier, making your skin more prone to dehydration and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Think of your skin as a sturdy bridge; over time, weathering and daily wear weaken its structure, just as the gradual loss of sebum, collagen and elastin in our skin leads to dryness and a lack of firmness.
Dry skin is also fragile as even minor tears can be painful and lead to infection. But recent research suggests that moisturizing the skin twice daily can significantly reduce the occurrence of skin tears in elderly people, by up to 50%. This highlights the powerful impact of a consistent skincare routine in maintaining healthy, resilient skin as we age.
Menopause & Dry Skin:
During menopause, hormonal changes, particularly a decline in estrogen levels, can significantly impact your skin, leading to dryness and other skin concerns.
Estrogen maintains skin hydration and keeps its looking plump and glowing by promoting the production of sebum or natural oils and supporting collagen and elastin levels. As estrogen levels decrease during menopause, the skin's ability to retain moisture diminishes, resulting in dry, dull, and crepey skin.
Menopause is a natural transition, and your skin can continue to be healthy and radiant throughout this phase by focusing on hydration and self-care. Because one thing that we all care about a lot, especially as we age, is our skin, and our body.
Now, it's completely understandable to feel frustrated by these skin changes. You've cared for your skin for years, and experiencing dryness can be discouraging. But remember, you're not alone in this.
Many women face similar concerns of dryness while they are aging because the majority of the population relies on drugstore products. Which apparently are flooded with anti-aging, hydrating products and while they might promise the moon and stars, they often fall short on one crucial factor: thoughtful ingredient selection. These products might contain harsh chemicals or lack the key ingredients mature skin truly needs.
The result?
A battle against dryness and irritation, leaving you feeling frustrated and discouraged.
One of the major concerns is to find the perfect product without wasting time and money.
Therefore, when it comes to restoring moisture and dealing with aging skin, one needs to be very cautious about how they choose their products. Be careful while opting for a cream that can help moisturize the skin as it is subjective to the person using the cream.
For dry and flakey skin, there are many creams, lotions, and serums available out there, but most of them only have a superficial effect on the skin. They may provide quick results, but the moment you stop using them, your skin tends to go back to its old form and show the same results. The reason for this is that these products only reach the upper few layers of the skin, and do not go deeper into the layers.
Regular drugstore skincare like artificial fragrance-laden toners, creams, moisturizers, abrasive exfoliants, and alcohol-based cleansers can be too harsh for delicate facial skin, leading to dryness and irritation. The best way to care for your dry skin is to choose gentle, fragrance-free products formulated with time-tested, natural ingredients that actually work!

ULTRA-RICH YOUTH-BOOST FACE POMMADE
Ayurveda’s Age-Old ‘Age-Hold’ Sultry-Smooth Complex made of super-unctuous Black Gram. A rich but non-sticky, sultry slip pommade which wipes off every dryness issue in 1 nightly swipe!

This powerful plant-based formula unlocks a hidden smoothness, leaving your skin supple and renewed.
.BLACK GRAM is Aging Skin’s Hidden Gem in Ayurveda, with advantages that are unimaginable.
In Ayurveda, Black Gram is known for its Vata-balancing and moisturizing properties. It is the ONLY pulse that’s got upwards of 10 times of phosphorus than any other pulse!
Black gram is an extremely nutritious, enriching food as it contains high levels of protein (25g/100g), potassium (983mg/100g), calcium (138 mg/100g), iron (7.57 mg/100g), niacin (1.447 mg/100g), thiamine (0.273 mg/100g), and riboflavin (0.254 mg/100g).
Scientific studies mention that the seeds of Black Gram contain essential and non-essential amino acids, minerals, acceptable fatty acids, and tocopherol - a rich source of phenolic acids, flavonoids and condensed tannin contents. They are also an excellent source of B-complex vitamins, Vitamin A and essential folates that keep skin looking taut and firm.
These characteristics are what lend Black Gram its unctuo-licious powers to fight the appearance of aging signs on the face and the neck to deliver cushiony-soft, velvety-smooth skin.
But what makes Blavana’s formulation so distinctive?
It is the ratio of linoleic and oleic acid. When combined, linoleic and oleic acid lock in intense moisture into the skin to soothe, heal and protect the skin from environmental exposure and aging, which is exactly what your skin needs. When choosing skin care oils, creams and moisturizers, choose one with an abundance of oleic acid if you have drier skin, so that the oils can penetrate the skin, but one that is also non-comedogenic so that it will not clog pores.
And Blavana Youth-Boost Face Pommade Does Just That for You and MORE. Let’s delve deeper into more of its features:

Unconvinced?
Answer this:
Have you ever bought a skincare product just because it’s endorsed by a celebrity you like? And were you then disappointed that it didn’t work? Your dark circles, wrinkles, dry skin didn’t disappear overnight (or ever)!
DON'T BE SWAYED BY MEDIA AND INDUSTRY STANDARDS
Consider the industry itself: a multi-billion-dollar enterprise built on the idea of keeping you on treatments for life. Isn't there a better, more sustainable way to achieve healthy skin?
Dry skin is a battle many of us face, and the beauty industry bombards us with promises of a “cure” with immediate results – often through expensive, chemical-laden products and treatments. But what if the answer lies in the power of nature's bounty?
While there's no denying the allure of a quick fix, chemical products promising immediate results may harm your skin in the long run. By disrupting your skin’s natural balance, harsh chemicals can lead to long-term damage. Avoid toxic skincare and opt for safer alternatives instead.
RETHINK YOUR SKINCARE
Traditionally, skincare has followed a simple logic: cleanse and moisturize. The harder you scrub away "dirt," the cleaner your skin feels, right? Well, this approach might work for your kitchen counter, but it doesn't translate well to the complex ecosystem of your skin.
Unlike a countertop, your skin is alive. It's porous, meaning anything you put on it gets absorbed. This realization changes the game when it comes to harsh chemicals in cleansers and moisturizers.
Historically, people relied on natural ingredients like plant oils and butters for skincare. These provided a luxurious feel and effective hydration without the harsh chemicals.
But modern marketing paints a different picture. We're bombarded with messages claiming that:
The truth is much of this isn't entirely accurate. It's heavily influenced by the beauty industry's profit motive.
Rather than falling for marketing tactics, let's tap into the power of nature. Natural ingredients like coconut and sesame oil offer deep moisturization, while aloe vera provides soothing and cooling benefits, proven to combat dryness effectively.
THE POWER OF NATURAL:
Nature has been our skincare guru for ages. Think about it – Cleopatra's milk baths weren't just a luxurious indulgence, milk contains lactic acid, a gentle exfoliant. Similarly, honey, a staple in many cultures, is a natural humectant that draws moisture to the skin.
If you're still with us, let's uncover what the media doesn't want you to know—age-old secrets that have been around for generations!
If you're still with us, let's uncover what the media doesn't want you to know—age-old secrets that have been around for generations!
Each country and civilization have its history of skincare regimens and formulations which are still being followed successfully. I had no idea that something as common and economical as milk, turmeric, or honey could have an impact on my skin. If you dig deeper, you will find more about herbs and oils that can do wonders. Though they might not be easy to find, or some oils might not be easy to cook and follow the laborious process of mixing them and finding the accurate proportions, nothing can beat what natural things can do for us. We are, ultimately nothing but a product of nature.
One of the major things that needs to be paid some attention to is that everything we feed our skin is natural, devoid of any harmful chemicals.
And since our facial skin is so delicate, we must be more concerned about what we are applying on it.
But how is the skin on our face more sensitive? Compared to the rest of your skin, your face is a bit of a diva. Let's figure out why it needs VIP treatment.
Our face takes the brunt of daily wear and tear. This constant exposure to the elements puts them at greater risk of environmental damage. UV rays, dry air, and pollution are just a few culprits from the natural world. But our modern lives add their own stressors, too. The blue light emitted from our screens, even indoors, can contribute to this damage.
This process breaks down collagen, the protein responsible for keeping our skin plump and youthful. This breakdown can lead to premature signs of aging like dryness, wrinkles and fine lines.

But how is the skin on our face more sensitive? Compared to the rest of your skin, your face is a bit of a diva. Let's figure out why it needs VIP treatment.
What are the differences between the skin on our face and body?
Cellular Differences: Facial skin boasts smaller skin cells compared to the rest of the body. This might seem insignificant, but it creates a "tighter" barrier. Imagine a brick wall – smaller bricks leave less space for gaps, creating a less permeable barrier. This tighter construction on the face, however, comes at a cost – increased sensitivity due to less overall protection.
Thinness: Facial skin is noticeably thinner than most areas of the body, further accentuated by a lower layer of fat. This delicate structure makes wrinkles and lines more prominent on the face and neck. The thinnest and most sensitive area? The eye zone. Extra care is needed for this delicate region.
Oil and Water: Facial skin has a higher concentration of oil glands compared to the body. This explains why our faces tend to be oilier and shinier. This oil serves a dual purpose: lubrication and fighting bacteria. Overdoing cleansing or using the wrong product can strip these natural oils, disrupting the skin's natural balance and potentially leading to dryness and even increased oil production (the body's attempt to compensate).
Hair Follicle: Our faces are home to a much higher density of hair follicles compared to other areas of similar size. While these follicles are fine, they play a vital role in sweat and toxin release. Due to this close proximity, avoiding clogged pores is crucial to prevent dryness, large pores, dullness, etc.
Thicker and drier skin on the body requires a different approach to hydration than the delicate skin on your face. Body creams are formulated to deliver deep moisture, which can sometimes feel heavy or greasy on the face. This can lead to clogged pores and an unwanted oily sheen.
The key to combating dry facial skin lies in understanding its unique needs. Choose ingredients that cater specifically to your individual concerns. Facial skin has unique needs. It craves hydration, but also benefits from specialized care to address dryness, skin tantrums and signs of aging.
Facial skincare products are designed with this in mind: often containing lightweight, non-comedogenic (meaning they won't clog pores) ingredients and actives that target specific concerns like dryness, and the appearance of pigmentation, skin laxity and wrinkles, which is exactly what A. Modernica Naturalis BLAVANA: Ultra-Rich Youth-Boost Face Pommade has.
Let’s look at a few of these ingredients in detail:
MANJISTHA:
Traditionally recognized as a natural purifying herb and a natural complexion-booster in Ayurveda, Manjistha or Indian Madder lends skin a glowing, refreshed and youthful look. It is also known to impart a golden sheen, in order to take away the day-to-day dullness that sits on your skin and makes you look older.
Loaded with skin-soothing, glow-giving, complexion-enhancing compounds like munjisthin and purpurin which are glycosides, Manjistha gives the skin a lit-from-within illuminated appearance. In addition, it is also highly revered for:
Promoting a youthful dewy sheen with an ageless look
Calming and relaxing inflamed, fiery skin
Enhancing and evening out the skin tone, and for
Gently exfoliating and cleansing the skin
APRICOT:
Ayurveda believes Apricots to have ‘Jara Nashanam’ and ‘Kaidev Nighantu’ or Age-Defying Components. It is also called ‘Kapha Krita’ or something that increases Kapha.
According to modern skin science, Apricots are most known as potent skin hydrators as they have naturally high water content. They also come with multifaceted health-boosting properties for skin like:
Reducing the appearance of early signs of wrinkles and fine lines
Improving skin’s firmness, density and volume for a supple look
Rich in Vitamin A and E, flavonoids and potassium, Apricots can also infuse the skin with a dash of youthful vibrance by energizing dull, tired or under-nutritioned skin.
ALOE VERA:
You must have used Aloe Vera either in raw form or as a gel for various skin concerns. In Ayurveda, Aloe is said to be ‘Hima’ or coolant. It is considered a go-to solution for skin and hair issues and is said to be 'Haret tvagamyan' or something that abolishes skin issues (Kaidev Nighantu).
Ideal for all skin types, there really isn’t anything that this miraculous herb can’t do for your skin! From regularizing dryness to promoting an even tone by lightening the look of dark patches and other pigmentation to even cooling and soothing all skin tantrums, Aloe Vera is that handy, reliable and stunningly versatile ‘skin-saver’!
Dry, irritable, scaly or ‘crepey’-looking skin that’s scratchy?
Spots and blemishes that call your skin home for years now?
Adamant crow’s feet and wrinkles around the mouth?
Angry red bumps and scars littered all over your skin?
Aloe Vera’s got your back, no matter what!
Enriched with 75 potentially active compounds, the gel itself is a nutritious storehouse of everything from youth-boosting Vitamin C & E to protein-building folic acid and amino acids and even moisture-binding saponins.
SACRED LOTUS:
Revered in Ayurveda as a natural coolant (Pitta-pacifying property), just like its serene appearance, Sacred Lotus casts a charm of relaxation and calmness over the skin too. As its nutrition profile is naturally health-promoting, Sacred Lotus is also a commonly used culinary ingredient in many Asian cuisines.
Traditionally used in a number of rejuvenation therapies, this exotic plant also serves as an excellent means to:
Hold moisture in the skin and keep it soft and plump against dryness
Fight the look of aged skin as it’s an excellent agent for promoting youthful beauty, and
Help smoothen the appearance of the skin when it looks too porous.
CUCUMBER JUICE:
Extremely beneficial for soothing blushed or flushed skin, especially those skin types that are a tad high on the sensitivity scale, Cucumber juice is a godsend for protecting the integrity of skin. Another lesser known yet highly useful benefit of Cucumber juice is that it’s also quite proficient at maintaining balance and for ‘health-ifying' skin from the inside.
Makes sense why they advise to have Cucumber juice while on a detox or cleanse, now, doesn’t it?
It’s just as good for the skin from outside, as it is from the inside!
To top it off, it also functions well to:
Readily add a sprightly sheen and glassy look
Reduce the appearance of redness, puffiness and blemishes
GLYCERINE:
Glycerine is a natural compound that’s clear, colorless and odorless - a syrupy liquid derived from vegetable oils. For skin, it functions as a humectant (a substance that boosts moisture and hydration) and by all means is safe to be used externally and is highly effective for steadying the skin’s natural level of moisture.
With a nutrient load of highly benevolent compounds, glycerine shows emollient qualities as it acutely hydrates the stratum corneum (outer layer of the skin), provides protection against external irritants and retains moisture, for:
One upping your entire appearance with a glossy sheen
Keeping skin moisturized and healthy by banishing dry, dull skin
Softening and smoothening the skin texture and preserving youthfulness.
It’s just as good for the skin from outside, as it is from the inside!
Among the most difficult skincare problems to treat, dry skin or "Twak Rukshta" is considered to have deep-rooted causes as per the 5000-year-old science of Ayurveda.
The 5000-year-old science of Ayurveda suggests that dry skin is actually an indication of an imbalance, which is a common and can be managed with the right diet and lifestyle. Dry skin is usually described as rough and flaky skin texture, which becomes worse under low humidity conditions. It may or may not comprise of sensations of loss of elasticity and itch.
Negligence on your part can further aggravate this condition. Remember, eating healthy, drinking lots of fluids, keeping stress at bay, and hydrating adequately, can help you combat dryness.
Understanding body constitution is the first step to addressing skin conditions. Knowing how to choose the right herbs and the form of the moisturizer can keep dry skin at bay. After all, Skincare is about practicing healthy habits and self-love.

Rich, moisturizing not greasy
I "stumbled" upon this company a couple of years ago and so glad I did! I have loved all of their products that I've tried but this review is strictly about Blavana Ultra-Rich Youth-Boost Face Pommade for Aging Skin. I had oily/combination skin when I was younger but was now at an age where I needed something more as my skin was getting drier. Impressed with the reviews, I gave this a try. I was initially concerned that it was so thick and thought that it may be too heavy for daytime use but I was wrong. It goes on smooth and soaks right in. Never greasy, even on hot & humid days. I have pretty sensitive skin but have never had any sort of reaction to this product. I don't have a lot of wrinkles but the ones that I do have are fine and subtle, my pores are unnoticeable and I rarely use any foundation anymore. Just a little tinted sunscreen. The jar may appear small in size but it lasts a long time since you don't need to use as much as you would with other products. I use it alone during the day and mix a couple of drops of the Youth Spring Oil with it before bedtime. Your skin will thank you! Just a tip to get every last drop out of the jar, place it on it's side when storing and it will be much easier to access.
