    Porosity itself refers to how closed or open your hair cuticles are. Here’s what’s really happening: Your hair isn’t just “dry.” It’s either not letting moisture in easily (low porosity) or letting it escape too quickly (high porosity). When you use the same routine for both, you get the same frustration: products that don’t seem to “stick.” 

    If you’ve never thought about porosity, this alone can explain why advice online feels generic. You can use every “no sulfate, no silicone natural shampoo and conditioner” and still feel like nothing changes!

    Take these DIY 2-Minute Hair Porosity Tests:

    1. Put one strand of hair in a glass of water and let it sit for 2 minutes. If it floats, it's low porosity. If it reaches the bottom, high porosity

         OR    

    2. Lightly mist your hair with water. If it beads on top and takes its sweet time to absorb, you likely have low porosity hair. If it absorbs quickly, it's probably high porosity hair.

    TIP 1 : Treat Scalp Care as Skincare (because it is!)

    Most people treat the scalp like a quick stop on the way to “real hair care.” Your scalp is also aging with your face. Thriving scalp skin is where healthy-looking hair starts.

    It can be as simple as a 2-minute head massage a few times a week. 

    Use your fingertips (not your nails), or a scalp massager. Think of it as “waking up” your scalp and loosening buildup and tension, especially if you wear tight hairstyles, sit at a desk all day, or feel that heavy, tired scalp feeling.

    TIP 2 : Pay Close Attention to Hair Wash Day

    Most people focus on a “safe shampoo” choice, but the bigger issue is what happens to the mid-lengths and ends during washing: friction, rough handling, and repeated cleansing of already fragile hair.

    • Low porosity hair can feel coated if it isn’t cleaned thoroughly, then nothing absorbs well.

    Some research suggests using a hair dryer at the lowest temperature and keeping it 15 cm apart from hair causes less damage than drying hair naturally. A simple leave-in conditioner or smoothing serum on slightly damp hair can help tame frizzy hair.
