What is Vata?
Vata is a 'dosha' or bio-element that stands for the influence of air and space. Excessive Vata means accelerated ageing, dryness, exaggerated appearance of wrinkled, rough skin, weakness, forgetfulness, lack of focus, nervousness and more.
What does Vata balancing mean?
Balancing vata means providing the body with the opposite of Vata - moisture, hydration, groundedness to ease off dryness, anxiety, and calm a distracted mind that may be running all-over-the-place!
Interestingly, Ayurveda also divides life into stages of Kapha, Pitta and Vata. Ayurveda describes ageing as a process of dehydration and says that life starts with Kapha or excessive moisture (see how babies are always covered in fluid?!) reaches the Pitta stage in youth when we’re all energetic and fired-up and then it goes into the Vata phase or the phase of ageing and dryness... And hence, Ayurveda recommends the opposite or balancing/pacifying lifestyle and skincare!
