CASE STUDY 1
According to a research team that tested 25 melatonin sleep gummy products, “chewable melatonin supplements sold as over-the-counter sleep aids may contain potentially dangerous levels of the hormone.”
The researchers found that 22 of the 25 products sampled contained significantly different amounts of melatonin than advertised. One contained no melatonin but did contain 31.3 mg of cannabidiol (CBD), a chemical found in the cannabis plant. Another had gummies packing nearly 3.5 times more melatonin than the labeled quantity.
CASE STUDY 2
In 2017, researchers from the University of Guelph systematically analyzed 31 melatonin supplements that were purchased from local stores. These supplements spanned 16 different brands and included a representative sample of formulations, including liquids, capsules, and chewable tablets.
What they uncovered was troubling (to say the least): "Compared to the label on the bottle, melatonin content varied from 83% less than what was written, all the way up to 478% more than what was labeled."
The researchers explained that they anticipated some samples may have decreased melatonin content because of known degradation and stability issues, but they struggled to explain why so many samples had more melatonin.
Does any of this sound like something you’d want to take right before you sleep or at any other time of the day?
MELATONIN IS ESPECIALLY NOT GOOD FOR YOU!
Not only are you taking LITERAL HORMONES, you also don’t know HOW MUCH of those hormones you’re taking, AND now, ironically, you, who actually needs help to fall asleep, should not be taking melatonin.
